I am a freelance writer and video producer working in Santa Cruz and Silicon Valley, just south of the San Francisco Bay Area. I basically live in the prettiest middle-of-nowhere, but will drive for work that excites me!
I hail from the highly underrated state of Wisconsin, and I’m a graduate of the documentary program at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. I have a wealth of experience in TV & film production, and I have been producing content – video, photo, written, radio – for a variety of audiences for over 14 years.
I am a combat veteran, having spent 8 years in the Army National Guard. I served two year-long deployments working in public affairs. In 2004, I served in Iraq as a military broadcast journalist, and earned what I hoped would be lifelong street cred as a badass. I deployed again in 2008 to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and served in the role of Media Relations team leader for the Joint Task Force in Guantanamo Bay, arguably the least desirable job on the planet. I set aside my combat boots in 2009 to pursue a career in professional storytelling through TV, film, print and radio for all audiences.
I strive to be entertaining as well as informative in my work, as I think life in general is more fun that way. As a writer, my interests vary widely, but I tend to gravitate towards those stories that deal with women’s issues, veterans and public health.
I’ve written blog posts, web copy, social media content, news and feature articles, screenplays, press releases and TV/Radio broadcast scripts.
